Volume 3 - Chapter 396: Law of the Flesh
Although Su Zhenyuan dearly loved his four daughters, as the head of the Su Clan, his word was law. Once he agreed, the matter was settled—no one could overturn it, unless the slumbering Ancestor awoke.
Su Qingmei understood this, so the words on her lips were swallowed back down. Her gaze shifted toward the young man, and a trace of coldness and killing intent flickered in her eyes.
“Muqing, though this child is only at the first tier of the Immortal Lord Realm, your father and your mother just examined his soul longevity—it’s only ninety-six years, not even a hundred. With such a short soul lifespan, his talent can already be considered unparalleled. He's not inferior to the core successors of any great clan!”
Su Zhenyuan paused slightly. Though he personally leaned toward Su Muqing’s marriage with that Lin Clan imperial scion, the marriage contract had been passed down from their ancestors. In the spirit of fairness, he still spoke a few words in Li Hao's favor. If his daughter happened to develop feelings for the boy, it would be destiny—and he could only resign himself to it.
“His soul lifespan is less than a hundred?”
At those words, the three daughters abruptly raised their heads and looked at Su Zhenyuan in disbelief.
Even they themselves hadn’t reached such cultivation at that stage of soul lifespan!
Among them, the most gifted—Su Muqing, hailed as a peerless True Phoenix born once in fifty thousand years in the Su Clan—had only just stepped into the True Immortal Realm at the same soul longevity. Her talent alone had already shaken the entire Gusu Imperial Star, and with the Lin Clan heir, they had become a tale of divine union.
Could it be that this youth before them surpassed even Su Muqing in talent?
In an instant, all three women's eyes landed on Li Hao, full of shock.
Su Muqing looked at him with a mixture of suspicion and awe. But when she noticed him staring at her, her expression abruptly darkened. Rage once again surged in her chest, and she clenched her teeth.
“Even if that’s true, I will never marry him! Who knows if he took some rare elixir? If it were just about cultivation, I could have reached peak Immortal Lord long ago. If he really was that capable, why would he need to rely on the Su Clan?!”
Hearing this, both Su Wanqing and Su Wanxue nodded inwardly. Their father had said that an Emperor stood behind the boy. In that case, acquiring rare treasures of chaos wasn’t unthinkable. Mere cultivation level proved little—it all came down to whether the foundation was firm and how he performed in real combat.
Su Zhenyuan had also considered the possibility of Li Hao taking some rare elixir. But with an Emperor guiding him, there was no way he would be force-fed growth. His path must have been built step by step. The degree of water in his Immortal Lord cultivation couldn't be too high.
He said, “Xiao Hao’s talent should be beyond doubt...”
“I don’t care what talent he has. I’m not interested. I made a vow with Brother Zhexuan—we’ll never part!”
Su Muqing spoke with grief and indignation.
Su Zhenyuan’s face darkened at her interruption. He gave a heavy, cold snort—something he rarely did—and sternly said:
“My decision is final. There’s no need for more talk. A hundred years from now, if you still don’t like him, if he still hasn’t moved your heart, you may reject him. But during these hundred years, you will obey!”
That cold snort struck Su Muqing like a hammer, shaking her to the core. Her face turned pale as she stared blankly at her father, as if he had become a stranger. Finally, she lowered her head slowly and turned to face the youth who had been looking at her all along.
In that moment, all decorum and propriety were cast aside. Her grievance and fury surged forth. She made no effort to hide the loathing and hatred in her eyes as she said:
“Whether ten years or a hundred—whether a thousand or ten thousand—”
“I, Su Muqing, will never love you!”
Each word pierced like a needle, echoing through the grand hall, as if to skewer the boy’s fragile figure.
But Li Hao remained silent. As for Su Muqing, he held no feelings—only a stranger. Everything he had done here was for the sake of the one who had traveled across time and space to stand beside him in front of the Supreme One.
Compared to that, what was a mere century of companionship?
Seeing Li Hao so impervious, Su Muqing felt her rage had nowhere to land. She clenched her teeth, gave a cold snort, and turned to leave.
Li Hao’s figure blurred and followed, pursuing the moon-blue skirt that moved through the river of time.
“You!”
Seeing him truly follow her like a shadow, Su Muqing nearly exploded with fury, her face darkening with rage.
She turned and glared daggers at Li Hao. Immortal power surged from her, lifting her hair and dress in a gust—but the youth before her remained unmoved.
Seeing her pressure fail to drive back this first-tier Immortal Lord only added to her frustration. She glanced toward her father in the hall, and a hint of resentment flitted through her eyes before she turned and left.
With Li Hao and Su Muqing gone, Su Wanqing and Su Wanxue exchanged looks, both surprised by the turn of events.
“Father, Mother, we’ll take our leave as well.”
Su Wanxue came to her senses and bowed.
With their father’s nod of approval, the two quickly departed from the Hall of the Bright Emperor. They could feel the storm brewing there. In their hearts, they couldn’t help but feel curious about the boy. To reach the Immortal Lord Realm in under a hundred years, he must have had powerful backing. Such growth, without shortcuts, indicated astonishing potential.
But why cling to the Su Clan?
In the Bright Emperor Hall, only Su Zhenyuan and his wife remained.
“Wife, do not act recklessly. If that boy suffers even the slightest harm, it will be considered a breach of our Su Clan’s promise. I will not let it slide.”
Su Zhenyuan’s expression was grim, his gaze brimming with authority as he spoke firmly.
Su Qingmei’s face shifted. That was a severe warning—she knew her husband meant every word.
“Do you really intend... to have Muqing marry such a boy?”
