Volume 3 - Chapter 395: A Century of Solitude
This time, before Li Hao could decline, Su Zhenyuan had already ordered the guards outside the hall to summon his three daughters.
The Su family’s Four Little Phoenixes, aside from Su Muqing, included three other daughters—all endowed with extraordinary talent. Within the imperial star of Gusu, they were famed and revered, their names stirring admiration among the great clans, many of whom vied for marriage alliances.
…
Within the Su family’s inner courtyard, at the martial training ground.
After Su Muqing accepted Su Qiyu’s invitation, the atmosphere among the Su clan juniors grew lively. An Immortal King elder, sensing the eagerness in their hearts, suggested that Su Muqing give a brief demonstration. It would serve as both inspiration and guidance.
Su Muqing did not refuse and entered the stage alongside Su Wanqing for a light spar.
Though it was only a friendly exchange, the movement techniques and immortal techniques the two displayed brimmed with the power of the perfected realm, leaving the gathered Su disciples below the platform in awe, admiration deepening in their eyes.
"Muqing, that child... once she enters the Primordial True Realm, I imagine it won’t be long before she steps into the Immortal King Realm."
The elder stroked his beard with a soft chuckle, eyes brimming with pride. After all, centuries ago, the young girl before him had once toddled about this very martial field, babbling as she learned the basics. He had been her instructor back then, marveling at her swift comprehension and rapid mastery. Within a few months, she had outpaced her peers by leaps and bounds.
In a way, he was half her master.
“Mm.”
Su Qiyu nodded. Yet when the words “Primordial True Realm” were mentioned, his gaze flickered. He would not miss this opportunity either.
“Wanqing is a rare talent in her own right, but compared to Muqing, she still falls short. Our Su clan producing someone like Muqing is proof of our clan’s gathered fortune.”
The Immortal King elder glanced at Su Wanqing, his eyes equally warm. If not for Su Muqing’s monstrous brilliance, Su Wanqing would have shone like a pearl among stars, dazzling in her own right.
But alas, whenever a moon rises, the stars dim. The world permits but one sun and one moon; no glory may rival theirs.
As the two girls stepped off the platform, the elder’s smile widened. Su Muqing was just about to bid farewell to the two when suddenly, a ripple stirred the distant void.
A figure descended, wrapped in the power of a boundary domain. He released only a sliver of his presence, careful not to startle the young mistresses.
“Miss Wanqing, the Patriarch requests your presence in the Minghuang Hall.”
The guard of the Minghuang Hall bowed respectfully.
At the sight of the elite guards—those who could only be dispatched by her father—Su Muqing and Su Wanqing were both caught off guard. Their father had left earlier on important business… had he already returned?
“Why is Father summoning me?”
Su Wanqing asked in confusion, casting a glance at Su Muqing beside her.
If something important had occurred upon his return, her father should have summoned Su Muqing first.
The guard of the Minghuang Hall responded gently. Having watched these two young mistresses grow up, he held sincere affection for them. In a soft voice, he said:
“I heard it concerns your marriage.”
“My... marriage?”
Su Wanqing froze, stunned in place.
Su Muqing’s brows arched slightly. She had just been engaged to that young master of the Lin clan, and now their father had arranged a marriage for Wanqing too? Was the situation at the border truly that dire?
“Miss Wanqing, please.”
The guard spoke again with courtesy.
Su Wanqing returned to herself. Her eyes showed a flicker of resistance, but in the end, she said nothing. She knew—if her father summoned her, she would have to go, no matter what.
Besides, she had understood from a young age: being born into the great Su clan meant basking in endless cultivation resources and wealth… but also being destined to serve the clan through marriage.
“I understand.”
Her eyes dimmed. Her mood visibly sank as she gave a quiet reply.
Su Muqing knew this younger sister of hers well. Since childhood, Wanqing had been soft of heart and submissive by nature. Though a famed prodigy of the imperial star, she was known for her gentle and agreeable temperament—one that bordered on meekness.
“I’ll go with you.”
Su Muqing grasped her sister’s wrist, eyes bright with a sharp gleam. “If you don’t like the candidate, just tell me. I’ll help plead your case with Father!”
Su Wanqing, touched by her words, nodded with emotion in her eyes.
The guard opened his mouth to speak, but when he met Su Muqing’s piercing gaze, he swallowed his words and said nothing more. Enveloping the two in a domain of power, he gave a nod to the elder and Su Qiyu before silently taking his leave.
At the same time, guards of the Minghuang Hall were dispatched to two other courtyards…
